Congratulations to Ryan Fletcher, of Kailua Kona, Hawaii who won the Feb/Mar 2015 PFRE videographer of the month award with this stunning video.
As usual with these contests, there's a lot to be learned from looking at the juror comments in the contest Flickr group. Thanks to the jurors who had the time to post the comments. Note that I also have direct links to each video on the video numbers below.
Here are the points awarded by the video jurors:
Thanks for all the hard work by the video jurors! They make this contest work.
Here are Ryan's comments:
Wow. Thank you so much! I love that this community is here to bring together others in our field. Real estate videos are becoming a true force in the realty industry. When I elevate the standard level of quality and show passion in our work it helps realtors and buyers see the value in what I provide. And I know I have some very talented cinematographers here in Hawaii and on this forum who have been a big inspiration for me!
I had the pleasure to film this beautiful home at Hualalai Resort in Kona, Hawaii. Robert Kildow, the broker at Hualalai, is a natural on camera and is able to point out unique and interesting features about the homes. This home was recently constructed and is one of my favorite designs I've seen yet. The open floor plan along with a great interior design sets this one apart.
I like to use long slides and crane movements to keep the viewers eyes focused on the home and not distracted by camera movement. I am always looking for unique angles and lighting opportunities but try to capture the natural lighting of the home. I am constantly evolving and striving to produce the best possible product and am so happy to be able to film something that I enjoy and love.
I've been having a blast shooting aerial images and video here on the Big Island. There is just so many beautiful locations and wildlife to be seen from above. Check out some of my Passion Projects: Mana Road and Humpback Whales .
Shot primarily with a Panasonic GH4 (4k downscaled to 1080), GoPro Hero 4 Black / Phantom 2, and a Zoom H1N with a lav mic. Editing and colored in FCPX.
Great job Ryan. Very inspiring stuff. Congratulations.
Congratulations Ryan. An excellent film.
Can I just make one small request though to my fellow video jurors. As well as scoring the films, please do add your comments to the films if you possibly can. The points / winning thing is of course fantastic and a great way to see how your work rates with other real estate videographers across the world, but for me it's the comments that really make this competition. As in the stills competition, it's a rare thing to have the attention / critique of other professionals in your field and it's helped me hugely. So, jurors, please more comments - however brief!
Congrats Ryan!
I agree with Hamish. The comments are quite valuable, since while creating you can easily be in a bubble, along with pressing to keep time constaints vs budget managable. In my case, the budgets are much smaller to work with, so I don't have the luxury of nitpicking like I'd like to, and the homes up here simply don't compare with other areas, and that's where the value of the comments are a great help in understanding what makes good video.
Congratulations Ryan, very well deserved!

Congrats to Ryan....well done. There is a lot to be learned from all the submissions - and the comments from the reviewers is really, really appreciated. We already used some of the ideas in a video we just completed the other day.......there is nowhere to go but up!
Sorry I didn't have time to add comments this time. I am busy balancing the DoP duties on two indie films right now and it's a little nuts. Great work and congratulations to all of you for getting your work out there.
