Here is what Anastasia had to say about the win:

Thanks to the jurors for your time and input. So many images and so many of them of such good quality! I’m extremely happy and honored to be selected as a Photographer of the Month!

I’ve been reading the PFRE blog for five or so years and it has greatly impacted my life. It helped me improve my photography and business skills. Through the PFRE blog, I learned about many great photographers who inspired me to keep working on my skills. I’d like to say big thanks to Larry Lohrman, Brandon Cooper, and Tony Colangelo for your dedication and hard work on the PFRE blog. A special thank you to Tony Colangelo who shared with me a few secrets about composition, lighting, and post production that brought my work to the next level. Big thanks to Tony Roslund and Barry MacKenzie for their inspiring and fun workshop!

This image was created for a talented designer, Radhika Vydianathan (KCI Design). I used my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 10-24 lens. I zoomed all the way to 24mm and took several flash and ambient frames. I ended up using one flash and one ambient and blended them in Photoshop. I cloned out light switches, removed some of the wrinkles on the pillows, and straightened verticals. I made some finishing touches in Nik Viveza. I also cropped out a window frame on the left. To strengthen composition, I decided to change the ratio from 2:3 to 4:5.

Thanks to PFRE for holding this contest and being such a great place to learn, to share ideas, and to meet great people!

  1. Thanks to all the jurors for and everyone who commented! As a first time participator, I really enjoyed watching all the new shots upload and read the helpful comments left by all of you. Most importantly, this competition really helped me stay in tune with what our goals are and kept me excited about what it is we do! Thank you! And great job to Anastasia, the runner ups, and everyone else who participated in contesting and critiquing! As a fairly new member to this community, I am very thankful for all of your presence here!

  2. Some really fantastic entries for the maiden voyage of this new category! I loved seeing how people approached this month’s theme with no history to look back on. Congratulations to Anastasia on her beautiful winning image. A job well done. It’s also nice to see some newer names in the winner’s circle and Top 5. (Of course it’s ALWAYS nice to see familiar faces, too, Matt and Stephen...)
