Congratulations to Pierre Galant, from Pasadena, CA--January 2019 PFRE Photographer of the Month!
The theme this month was "twilight exterior" and we saw 48 entries from around the world. This is Pierre's first POTM win. Thank you to everyone who participated and to the jurors who took time out of their busy schedules to contribute their votes and thoughtful commentary.
Please feel free to view and comment on any of this month's entries here.
Here's what Pierre had to say about the win:
Oh wow! That's so unexpected! I feel honored!
About the shot: This was a brand new construction so I had to work around contractors still finishing the house up. A pretty typical occurrence for me; there was even a beat up car in front that I thought would never leave. It was shot from street level with my tripod extended to the max, about 7 ft., and the camera tilted slightly up with a 16-35mm Canon lens. Verticals were straightened in post, mostly trusting the automatic straightening feature in LR, which doesn't always work perfectly. The camera was in the street so I couldn't do any light painting and I couldn't go left because I would have been in the way of traffic. So this is just 3-4 selected shots taken over the span of about an hour and put together in Photoshop. The sky was darkened using Color Effex Pro 4 from Nik Software. There is also a 10% color overlay (purple I think, or dark blue). The square format was the original delivery format. Thank you so much for picking this image as the winning one! I do want to give a huge thank you to Tony Colangelo whose coaching has been extremely invaluable for me. Also the workshop that he does, I learned a lot there too, and got to meet awesome colleagues. Highly recommended.
