Congratulations To Travis Rowan - PFRE Photographer Of The Month For September

Published: 23/09/2016
By: larry

travisrowansept2016Congratulations to Travis Rowan of Maui, Hawaii who has won the September photographer of the month for September. Travis won this contest last September - I think that the September theme, "Patio deck or garden space" is just Travis's thing!

Here are the contestants that the jurors awarded points to this month:

  1. Travis Rowan
  2. Gary Kasl
  3. Matt Rosendahl
  4. Aaron Kraft
  5. Canek Estrada
  6. Brian Doherty
  7. Carl Jones
  8. Matt Davis
  9. Anders Carlson

Don't forget to check out the discussion in the contest Flickr group. There are a lot of good comments and critiques. Thanks for everyone's participation in the contest.

Here are Travis's comments:

Thanks! It always feels good to be recognized by my colleagues. There were some serious contenders again this month so I’m grateful for the comments and the votes.

I created this image just over two years ago so I don’t recall the exact setup, but I can speculate. This image is a hand-blended composite of probably up to 10 frames. I used a single speed light with Honl mini softbox, CamRanger and iPad (a la Mike Kelley) to light the various elements of the interior and the foreground chairs. Started in LR then layered in PS and hand blended to taste. When I considered this image for an entry this month, I removed a few distracting light switches and finished it up in NIK software for the final polish.
