Photoshop is an undisputed frontrunner when it comes to image editing programs, but it is also known for its amazing designing features. Using Photoshop, you can create different formats, collages, and composite graphics quite easily. Here, I will show you how to put two photos side by side in Photoshop, resulting in a beautiful layout.
In this world of social media and visual marketing, unique images and beautiful designs hold great importance. Photoshop can help you achieve all that and more with its amazing tools and features. One of the most trending and popular designs these days is collages.
A collage is when two or more images are placed together within a single frame. This not only looks appealing to the eye, but it is very helpful in showing comparisons and demonstrating a theme or common subject. Photoshop allows you to place two images side by side by following a few simple steps.
Putting Two Images Side by Side in Photoshop
There are multiple procedures in Photoshop through which you can easily place two images together without distorting their appearances. Here, I will be looking into each of these methods in detail so that you can achieve your image editing goals easily.
Putting Two Images Side by Side Through Canvas Adjustments
When putting two images side by side, it is best to use images of the same size. However, even if they are not the same, you can adjust them accordingly, as I will do in this method. Here are the steps to follow:
To demonstrate this, I will be using two images. If they are not of the same size, I will resize them.
First, I have to make sure that both pictures have the same size. I can do this by following any of these two methods:
By using the crop tool, I can crop off the images so that they have the same size. However, this may lead to image elements getting lost or harmed.
Another way is to resize the images. Open one of the images, go to Image > Image Size, and enter the dimensions you want. Repeat the same for the second picture.
At this point, increase the canvas size so that it is able to fit both your images properly. To do this:
First, select the image that you want to place first.
To adjust the canvas size, go to Image > Canvas Size. You will then see a dialog box. Change the unit of measurement to Percent and enter the value of Width as 100. Also, make sure to change your image anchor to the mid-left. Click on OK.
Now, you will see that the image you selected is placed on the left side of your Photoshop canvas.
Now, go to the second image. This image will be present in a different document. So, first, I will have to add it to our Photoshop project. To do this, I can use any of these methods:
Drag and drop this image onto the other tab.
Copy this image file, and paste it into your Photoshop project.
Now, both your images will be in the same Photoshop document.
At this point, I will adjust the second image so that it aligns with my canvas as well as with the first image. I will do this using the Free Transform tool. To select this tool, go to Edit > Free Transform or press CTRL + T. As you select the transform tool, a border with points will appear around your image. Drag these borders so that it adjusts within the empty space on your canvas.
Once you are satisfied with both the images, press Enter.
Putting Two Images Side by Side Through the Stacking Method
This is another method through which you can place two images side by side in Photoshop. Here are the steps to follow:
The first step is to open both your images in Photoshop. However, in this case, I will not be using the Open command. Instead, I will go to File > Scripts > Load Files into Stack.
You will then see a dialog box. Click on Browse and navigate to the two images you want to work on. As you select the two images, you will see them both appear as a list in the dialog box. Now, click ‘OK.’
Now you will see that both the images open up within the same Photoshop document, and each of the images will have its own layer.
Now, go to the menu bar and click on ‘View.’ From the drop-down menu, make sure that ‘Snap’ and ‘Snap to Document Bounds’ are both enabled. The activation of these options will be represented by a checkmark placed next to it. This will ensure that your image gets moved to the corners of your document or your photoshop canvas.
Now, select any one layer from your layers panel. It is best to select the top layer.
With the Move Tool in your hand, drag the image from the selected layer to any corner of the document. As you get closer to the edge, your image will get snapped to the corner of your document.
At this point, your image will become invisible. To bring it back in front, go to Image > Reveal All.
Both your images will now be placed side by side.
