This Week In Real Estate Video #112 – DSLR Filmmaking Tutorials

Published: 07/06/2014
By: larry

DSLRvideoTutorialsI don't know about you but I find that it rather challenging to make the transition from years of shooting stills to shooting video. I'm still working on it. Video is a whole different ball game. A different way of thinking. I'll never forget the first time I tried to shoot video with my new 5DMkII. After years of shooting video with a Canon G9 I took my new 5DMkii to a parade and tried to shoot some video of the grandkids. Wow! This is much harder than shooting with a G9!

Theres a lot of learning needed. Several readers have asked about resources for getting up the learning curve of shooting video with a DSLR . I'm always looking for resources for learning video because I'm still working on getting up the learning curve.

Recently I came across DSLR Filmmaking Tutorials by Marcel Fenchel and Moritz Janisch, two filmmakers based in Frankfurt, Germany. All about the basics of filmmaking. From planning and shooting a video to editing and color correcting the HD footage. I found them via their YouTube channel which is a fantastic resource for learning DSLR Video. I've become an instant follower of their YT channel and their site.

While this resource is not directly about property video it's all basic DSLR video technique you need to learn to shoot property video.

  1. For Canon users I highly recommended this one :

And the blog of Vincent Laforêt is full of useful informations (especially the gear page) that you should follow too if you didn't already. For some you don't know, when he was just a photographer, he was the first person that Canon ask to shoot a video showcasing the cinematic power of the 5d Mark II. And now he is doing the "directing tour" and if I was in the U.S there is no way I'll miss that.

  2. Ok, got the bug to look at video editing, but would never agree to subscription pricing.
It's a trap as in my opinion.
I tried some free ones a couple of years ago, but that was bunk!
Now looking for middle of the road.
Usage would be for some basic and latter, mid level production quality real estate videos.
Suggestions of software between $100 - $250 would be quite helpful.
I saw a review of; CyberLink PowerDirector 12 Deluxe, as being best of "10" but the low
price ($50) and my lack of experience in this area makes me want to get some help in this regard.
    Any and all suggestions appreciated.
    Thank you
    logan
