I've changed the real estate photographer directory to a pay product. The update work and related interaction has increased to a much higher level than I expected. It's taking over my life! I've had a huge number of requests to be listed on the Interior Photographers list on the left side-bar. In the past the criteria for being listed in this list was rather fuzzy.
Here is the way that it works now. For $20 you get a life time listing in the real estate photographer's directory. The REP sign-up page now is setup to accept paid registrations. Also, for a limited time I will throw in a copy of my PFRE e-book with the directory registration if you ask for one in the comments part of the registration sign up. Everyone who is currently in the directory as of today will be "grandfathered". That is, they will stay in the directory for no cost. Also, everyone in the "Distinctive Interior Photographers" list will stay there.
If you think about it you'll see that $20 is a good price for a listing in this directory that will get even more attractive as time goes on because the PFRE blog has #1 google ranking for the search terms "real estate photography" and "real estate photographer" so as of Jan 2008 the directory is getting around 2000 visitors a month and increasing fairly rapidly. Also, I get feedback that those listed in the directory are getting new clients from it. Here is some feedback I've gotten:
Scott says: "Well done, Larry! I’ve gotten one or two clients who found me via the “old” directory, and one that is Google-friendly will be great! Thanks!"
Bruce Vinal says: "I just got a job photographing a $9.5 million estate directly as a result of being listed in the PFRE real estate photographer directory"
Every month I'm going to choose a real estate photographer of the month from those that are listed in the directory and feature that photographer in a blog post and add their site to the "Distinctive Interior Photographers" list on the side-bar. My criteria for choosing the photographer of the month will be their my assessment of the level of their photography work, the presentation of their work on their website and their participation in PFRE and the PFRE flickr group.
Hope this works well for everyone.
