Lighting For Real Estate Photography Extended

Scott and Malia have added a new section to their Lighting For Real Estate Photography video series called "Insolita" which means unusual, extraordinary, remarkable or curious. This Insolita section contains videos on 8 different unusual situations that you will eventually encounter in real estate photography lighting:

  • Reflective Surfaces
  • Mirrors
  • Using Gels
  • Massaging Exposures
  • Perspectives
  • Stainless Steel
  • Colored Walls
  • The famous DIY Umbrella Mod

I think Scott and Malia have done an impressive job with this video series. Scott does a great job on teaching and Malia's video and editing skills putting this together are topnotch. The video delivery system they are using ( insures you can watch this on any device, anywhere you can get Internet connectivity. I can watch it on my iPhone with 4G connectivity while I wait for my grandson's to finish soccer practice. If anyone would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be watching video regularly on my iPhone I'd have called you crazy.

As I was recently ranting to Scott and Malia, I think this method of teaching (online video tutorials by great teachers) is the future of education. Two other classic, successful examples of this method are and I've personally purchased other tutorials where you have to download all the video and the gigabytes and hours of downloads are obnoxious and the files are never on the device I want to use them on.

I keep getting questions asking, "where can I go to attend one of Scott's workshops." I've been to his workshop and my opinion is this video series conveys every bit as much information as one of his workshops and you don't have to deal with TSA to do it.

  1. To be clear, they didn't add 9 new videos, just ONE new one. The insolitas have always been there, with the latest addition of the umbrella mod. With that said, I absolutely love the video series. It's a ton of useful info. It does assume that you know a little bit about exposure and flash, but takes you from there.

  2. Larry, the "Insolita" section of shorts has been there from the very beginning. This week we released ONE new episode, not nine. Nine new episodes would KILL me!!

  3. @Scott, Malia Miguel - I didn't say 9 episodes, I said 9 videos. I changed the title. Episode, section, video, tutorial what ever.

  4. I just bought the series a few days ago and it's great! I had a house shoot yesterday; my workflow was much more streamlined after adjusting some light placement thanks to the tutorials. Not only that, but I was able to get away with using about half as many speedlights as I would've used before simply due to better placement. 🙂
