Drone Insurance--Are You Fully Covered?

Diane in New Jersey writes:

I'm about to add drone services to my business insurance. What types of coverage are people getting and where are they getting it from?

Giving advice on legal, accounting, or insurance, etc. is always a risky subject so for this post, we're just going to help point you in the right direction and perhaps the PFRE community can chime in with some suggestions of their own.

  1. As a background make sure you listen to the Shooting Spaces episode that covers quite a bit of background here, hint lots of high end Rollers, Audi's and Mercs in a shooting space may mean $1m liabilty is not enough.... great episode and I have already been in touch with my broker to clarify at least 2-3 serious points - one that could have cost me money had I not have corrected it!

  2. I added liability and property coverage to my policy with The Hartford for an extra $250 per year. If you don’t fly much Verifly offers coverage that you can purchase per flight.

  3. @Scott - Double check that the liability and property coverage covers drone, I reviewed many of them including ones from Harford, and they did not cover drones. This surprised both the agent and myself. If it does, please let me know because that rate is very cheap for drone insurance.
