Are There Real Estate Photographers Out There Still Using Nikon SB-80dx Flashes?

January 24th, 2019

Peter in Maine recently asked me if Nikon SB-80dx flashes are still being used by real estate shooters because he had some he wanted to sell.

Peter’s question refers back to a time 7 or more years ago when both Scott Hargis and David Hobby (of Strobist.BlogSpot.com) promoted them. Here is a post from 2011 where I explained the benefits of SB-80dx flashes.

My guess is that yes, there are still plenty of real estate shooters using SB-80dxs because of their great built-in optical slave benefits. I’ve noticed that the sale price at keh.com has dropped to around $120 which is significantly less than they used to be.

How about it? Anyone still using SB-80dxs?

  • This Guy!

    I use 4 SB-80dx and two Alien Bee 800’s.

I’ve tried youngnuo and they are garbage.

  • I’m still using 2 SB-80dx’s. One of them has dropped off doors twice onto tile (batteries flying everywhere) and they are still kicking… ha.
I’m always interested in another SB-80dx.

  • I had about 8 of them that have stopped working over the years. They got me through many a house though! The only Nikon I have left still kicking is the Sb-700.

  • Since I started outsourcing I rarely use a flash. 5 raw brackets is enough for superior images.

  • That’s all I use!
