How to Get a Lens Profile for Your Lens if It Doesn’t Show Up in Lightroom

June 7th, 2017

Lee in Hawaii asks:

What profile do you use for the Sony 10-18mm lens and a Sony NEX or a6xxx camera? I don’t see that model pop up as a profile in Lightroom.

Great question. First, you should always check the Adobe list of lenses that are supported in ACR (Adobe Camera RAW). If you scroll down to Sony lenses you’ll notice that the Sony 10-18mm lens does have an Adobe profile.

To get it loaded into Lightroom follow the instructions in the above tutorial that explains how to get a profile loaded.

  • Really good topic. I copied it over with the links. Thanks Lee for asking and thanks Larry for you useful reply.

  • The Panasonic Lumix lenses don’t appear on the list from Adobe. Is there a “generic” profile that works for these lenses?

  • @Michael Stewart – There are a couple of things you can do if there isn’t a lens profile:
1-Through trial and error find a lens profile from another lens and camera that makes your images look pretty good. Scott Kelby had a tutorial on this a while back… I got this idea from him.
2-Just manually adjust the image until it looks good to you and then create a preset to apply to other images from this lens.

The existence of lens profiles is something to pay attention to when purchasing a lens or camera.

  • Thanks Larry for checking into this! I’ll try it out!
