Here are Jenn's comments:

What an honor to be a Photographer of the Month! This was really unexpected, and there were so many great entries! And I can't say enough about how PFRE and the Flickr group has been such an important resource for my learning and growth as a real estate and interiors photographer for the last few years.

I've been learning a lot lately about getting outside of my comfort zone in many ways, and in particular learning to be more comfortable with contrast and shadows, which I really wanted to emphasize in this image. Thank you to Tony Colangelo who has been a wonderful mentor and business coach to me, for that push!

The light was a bit overcast, but there were large windows to the left that made a perfect soft light in this room. I added a flash Layer w/ Rovelight, CL to augment this and add some crispness, and blended with ambient. I blew out the windows a bit more (house next door), added a light gradient to the tv to get rid of reflections, and really pushed the contrast and embraced the shadows on this one. It was one of my favorites from this shoot!

  1. A huge congrats to you, Jenn!! I’m SO proud of you – not only for the exquisite lighting and strong comp in your winning shot but mostly for your willingness to try new things in your drive to get better! I couldn’t be happier for you … well done! 🙂

  2. It's nice to see your simple touch. Proper use of dynamic range without muddying the whites or pulling the shadows. Detail remained in the mids. Perfectly blown windows with control and no blooming. No real indication of supplemental flash or light. Close to perfect one point perspective and composition. Framing at the edges cutting properly without closure issues. I could go on, but you get it, lol.

    Congrats!

  3. Wow you guys. Thank you so much for the compliments and comments (I'm blushing here!) BTW - sooo many good entries - was blown away by some of them. So congrats to the others who received high points on their entries as well. You all are an inspiration 😉

    Thanks again~
