There is a lot to be learned this month by looking through the contest entries and reading the discussion on the entrants photos. There was more discussion this month than there has been in the past. Studying these entrants images and the discussion about each image in the contest Flickr group is a great way to learn about composition! Wow, what an honor to be selected as winner for this month's competition!
I shot this property for one of my clients who is specialized in short-term vacation rental. The house is located at the bay of Saint-Tropez at the Cote d'Azur in France. From the terrace you have an amazing view over the bay and on Saint-Tropez. So my challenge was to show this with my pictures.
I chose a bit tighter composition to give just a glimpse of the interior and focus more on the outside space and of course the view. I had to pick a bit higher perspective than I would usually do to show the sea and Saint-Tropez on the other side of the bay.
Exposure was the most difficult part of this shot. There are 3 different exposure zones (interior, terrace ,exterior view), so I opted for 3 different exposures which I then manually blended in PS. I shot this with only the ambient light and no additional fill flash as I didn't wanted to ruin the natural feel of this shot.
In the end I should have changed some minor details as taking out the picture frames but sometimes when you have to shot things in a very tight deadline you oversee things.
I'm really happy that my image got selected and that so many people looked and commented on it. So thanks Larry for this opportunity and I'll try participate in the upcoming competitions as well.

That is an amazingly natural looking image for 3 blended exposures. Looks like I have a new technique to try out!

Well done, Sebastian. Thanks for providing how you put it all together as well. I am a little surprised that there was no added light. I mean that in a good way. I'm also glad you image doesn't have an HDR look to it. Good job with the manual blending in PS. I'm sure it wasn't an easy job. What did you use for a lens? Was there a tilt shift used or just lens correction in post? Looking forward to seeing more entries from you in the future.
A well earned win. It's so easy to overlook little things on a shoot and they really don't hold much weight when looking at 'the big picture' of real estate photography. Your photo did a wonderful job of showing the light and feel of the space. Very happy for you.

I shot this with my Tamron 28-75/2.8 @ 30mm slightly aimed downwards. Afterwards I corrected the distortion and verticals in LR. Actually I could have shot this as well with my TS-E 24 and 1.4x TC but I was a bit in hurry so I grabbed the Tamron and looked for a few tighter framed detail shots.
Guys, I learn so much from reading the comments. Thanks for taking the time to critique. I know the judges are incredibly busy, but every month I pick up something to use and make my photography better.
