Get A Free Copy of LightTrac For The iPhone/iPad

August 28th, 2011

About 10 months ago when it first came on the market I did a post on the LightTrac iPhone App. The guys from LightTrac saw the post and are now going to give PFRE readers some free copies of LightTrac as a promo for their up coming version 2.2 for the iPhone/iPad. See below on how to enter the give away.

LightTrac allows you to give it an address and it shows the sun angle and elevation at sun rise and sunset as well as the sun angle and elevation at any given date and time. If you have this app available when you are making a appointment for a property shoot you can be sure you are not going to have a sun problem or while the client is on the phone you can move the shoot to a time when the sun is at a good angle.

This app is hands down the best app I’ve seen for this purpose! The same app works on both the iPhone and iPad. You can easily get by on an iPhone screen but using it on the iPad is a perfect size. Click on the image above to see a full size iPad image from my iPad screen.

Here’s how to enter the LightTrac give away:

  1. Go to and “like” them. You’ll need a FaceBook account for this.
  2. Leave a comment on this post with your email address… make sure it’s the same email address you use on the FaceBook account you used to like LightTrac.
  3. On Sun 9/4 I will close comments on this post and my 2 year old granddaughter will choose 10 comments (effectively random selection). The guys at LightTrac will verify that all the winners have “liked” them and then the winners will get a iTunes promo code for a free copy of LightTrac. The promo code will be good on iTunes until September 20.

By the way, version 2.2 of LightTrac is going to be released in the coming weeks that has a new feature that shows you the length of shadows that objects cast.

Update: For Android users that are reading this there is currently a special sale price ($1.99) now for the Android version of LightTrac over at Amazon.

  • tkx Larry! Really great app. I’m already using it. I love it!

  • I have been using this on my iPad since it came out…. it is truly a timesaver and it makes me look good. It’s worth farm more than what they’re asking for this app! I try and look up every home I’m shooting BEFORE I make the appointment so I can shoot it at the time I can make the house (and me) look the best!

I’ve been off the charts busy the last 4 months or so and was forced to schedule appointments when I had a slot, not when it was optimal for the light, and I can tell you I missed that application big time when I would show up at a house with the bright summer sun staring right at my lens! It’s a huge time saver, not to mention an easy way of trying to make everything look as good as you can given that most properties are shot in one visit.

  • This app looks great and I would love to have it!

  • I’ve been looking for something like this. Thanks for the heads up!

  • I would love to check this out, thanks for the article.
