Goodbye Caterina and Stewart and Thanks For flickr

June 20th, 2008

Caterina Fake and Stewart Butterfield, flickr co-founders, are leaving Yahoo. Their resignation is just part of the brain drain that is going on at Yahoo. Yahoo, who purchased flickr in 2005 for $35M is currently going through a corporate upheaval during the last few months. Hopefully this won’t have an effect on our hugely effective PFRE photo-discussion group and PFRE discussion group.

It’s only in the last year or so that I’ve come to appreciate the incredible collaborative force of flickr.  By simply starting a flickr group on the subject of real estate photography (13 months ago) and linking it to the PFRE blog the flickr group participants (up to 1429 as of today) have created what I am sure is THE most effective way to learn the business of real estate photography. There is no where else that you can post your real estate photos and get a constructive critique of what you need to do to take your real estate photography to the next step from the very best real estate shooters in the business! For free! And, there are 100s of other flickr groups doing the same kind of thing on other types of photography.

Thanks Caterina and Stewart!
