Polls
December 18th, 2007
Along the left side-bar I have a poll that I change periodically. These polls help me understand the makeup of the blog readers. It’s always hard to understand the interests and makeup of a blog because many people read the blog without commenting. Only the more vocal readers make comments so the polls are a way of giving input without having to make a comment.
Poll #7: Which operating system do you use?
- Windows XP - 46%.
- Mac OS X - 30%
- Vista - 19%
- Linux - 5%
- Other - 0%
Poll #6: What do you make annually from real estate photography?
- Over $100K- 7%.
- $80K-$100K - 5%
- $60K-$79K - 5%
- $40K-$59K - 15%
- $29K-$39K - 20%
- Below $20K - 48%
Poll #5: What is your main method of lighting or real estate photography?
- No Flash, No HDR- 11%.
- HDR processing - 11%
- Single, on camera flash - 38%
- Multiple off camera flashes - 39%
- Hot lights - 2%
Wow, I didn’t realize there were so many shooters out there using HDR.The other categories were not a surprise although I’m a little surprised that so many folks (11%) are using no lighting and no HDR. I guess we’ll have to work on these people!
Poll #4: How much do you charge (in USD) for a basic shoot of 3000 SF home?
- $500 or above- 13%.
- $400-$500 - 9%
- $300-$400 - 15%
- $200-$300 - 23%
- $100-$200 - 30%
- $$100 or below - 11%.
Interesting poll.Of coarse this hides the variation between markets. My experience indicates that in the larger metropolitan areas there is more demand for real estate photography services and expenses are higher making higher prices justified.
Poll #3: Do you like the Pop-up windows that appear on links on this blog?
- No 85%.
- Yes 15%.
It didn’t take long to get my answer! The message was clear from the first day. Popups are outa here!
Poll #2: Who do you do RE photography for?
- I shoot my own photos 18%.
- I shoot my own photos and for other Realtors 13%.
- I shoot for Realtors 62%
- Other: 7%
This poll is the first time I’ve been able to put numbers on the break down of the readership of PFRE. Just from comments and e-mail discussions my guess was the Realtors that shot their own photos were in the minority but I had no idea that the disparity was this great (18% Realtors 76% RE photographers). I was aware that some Realtors also shot professionally for other Realtors but I and supprised that the percentage is as high as 13%
Poll #1: What software do you use as your primary photo-editor?
- Photoshop 46%
- Photoshop Elements 32%
- Lightroom 32%
- ACDSee 3%
- Gimp 6%
- Other 3%
It’s a little surprising to me that there aren’t more Photoshop Elements users. I think is is noteworthy that Lightroom has only been out for less than a year and it has almost over taken Photoshop. In retrospect, I should have had a category of Photoshop and Lightroom. Hopefully next poll we can get more voters!
