Larry Lohrman is a photographer, editor, and founder of the PhotographyForRealEstate.net blog. Larry also wrote and publishes the book, The Business of Real Estate Photography: A System for Starting and Operating an Independent Real Estate Photography Business and publishes several other real estate photography eBooks by other authors.
Larry has been involved in real estate photography since the mid-1980’s because his wife, Levi Cannon, has been a Realtor on Seattle’s Eastside since 1985. In 1999, Larry quit his Technical Management job at Boeing, got his real estate license, and joined Levi in her real estate business full time. This change led to a much deeper involvement in real estate photography and online marketing. Ever since 1999, Larry has done all the marketing photography for their real estate business.
In 2000, Larry switched from film to digital photography and got started in 360 photography after being disappointed with the virtual tour vendors available at the time. During this era Larry used a Nikon CoolPix-995 for real estate photography and was featured by Nikon on their NikonBusiness.com web site demonstrating how Nikon CoolPix cameras could be used in real estate. This site was discontinued in 2005 when Nikon discontinued their marketing thrust to real estate agents.
In 2004 Larry started the Photography for Real Estate blog (PFRE) believing that all real estate agents would be interested in improving their photography to better market their listings. In late 2006, Larry used reader polls to find out that most of the people reading the PFRE blog were not real estate agents after all, they were a newly evolving group of photographers that worked for real estate agents. After understanding the audience, in 2007, Larry purchased the PhotographyForRealEstate.net domain, added a Flickr photo discussion group to the blog, and started hosting the PFRE blog himself so it could accommodate more control than the free blog hosting services allow.
Currently the PFRE blog and PFRE flickr group consists of a worldwide community of real estate photographers that help others get started in business and discuss subjects of mutual interest. In addition to the main PFRE flickr group Larry also administers the following real estate photography flickr groups:
