Here are Anders comments on his winning video:

I'm so excited to win this month. Larry, this site and these contests are such a good source of education for us. I can’t tell you enough how much I appreciate what you have created for all of us. I try to enter the video contest every month because I truly value the feedback I get from the judges and others commenting. In fact, after the contests are complete, I will often go back and make suggested changes to my videos. I also draw a lot of inspiration from the other competitors like Travis and Charlie this month. For instance, there is a shot 36 seconds into Travis’s video that I will have to try at some point.

Regarding my video this month, first, I have to give credit to the subject matter. I have been extremely lucky to be able to shoot these homes at Kukio. Being able to work in such a beautiful place is kind of a head start. Most of my video this month was shot with a Sony A7RII and Zeiss Batis 25mm. I used a 55mm f/1.8 for detail shots. I use this same set up for my still photos as well. Lately, I’ve been using a motorized slider for many of my camera movements. I set 2 key frames, one for the start of the shot and one for the finish and the slider does the rest. It takes a little longer to set up each shot, but I get a very smooth consistent speed every time. The motorized slider also allows for dynamic time-lapse movements. I’ve also been shooting the interiors in Sony’s SLOG flat color profile and color grading and editing the footage in Final Cut Pro X. I’m still learning how to grade, but the SLOG profile allows for some additional dynamic range. I shot all of the aerials with a DJI Phantom 4.

Thank you so much to Larry, Hamish, and Lyndon for taking the time to watch and comment on all of our videos! You guys rock!

Best of luck to Anders and all those on the Big Island and Maui as tropical storm Madeline and  Hurricane Lester head their way.

  1. So very impressed with this real estate video. Great capture of the important elements of this beautiful home, and I love the cloud movement especially captured in the infinity pool. Drone shots amazing as well. Thanks for the inspiration!

  2. Congratulations Anders. A really superb film. And congratulations to all the other entrants too. I think this is the strongest collection of films we have had for a while, if not ever!

  3. Congrats Anders - agree with Hamish, an amazing standard of videos this month - it's like trying to judge who got the best gold medal at the Olympics.

Well done to all the entrants and kudos for having the courage to put your work out there for scrutiny.

  4. I love most all of these videos. My favorite videos aren't at the top of this list, they are midway through. I thought there were some fantastic lifestyle videos. This is the type that works in my region. I just wanted to say hats off to the videographers that are talented enough to shoot lifestyle and tell a story. big thumbs up
