A Fantastic Thing Happened On Friday

June 7th, 2009

I was working away on Friday when my Google chat came alive and a friend told me he was going to “make my day”. And indeed he did! He’d managed to pick up the PhotographyForRealEstate.COM domain for me in an auction. So I now have the .com domain for PFRE in addition to the .net domain.

Update: 6/09/2009: Based on all the great feedback I got on this original post I’ve decided that it is not practical to move the Real Estate Photographers directory to a different domain. Instead, I’ve pointed PhotographyForRealEstate.com to the same place as the .net domain is pointed. This way, if someone mistakenly uses .com instead of .net they get to the same place.

  • Awesome!

  • That IS cool Larry!! I don’t think it’ll take long for the rankings to get up to the top!

  • Congrats on the grab.

BUT one thing to be aware of it that you can really penalized on your Google search engine ranking if you have sites with duplicate content on them.

I think it is one of the tools they use to defeat things some people do to artificially boost their page rankings. So, do a little research before you put your directory on both sites.

All the best, and thanks for the site and the book.
    I enjoy both.

  • Congrats…..but I don’t get it….why can’t you do those things on the domain you already have?

  • Todd- Good point. I’d not though of that.. You are right, I’d better look into that.

Scott- That’s an alternative.. I could change my WordPress theme to get the rotating images at the top and to get more space between the side bars.

  • Congratulations!

  • It is as it should be. This is the best place for that domain name to proclaim.

My question is will I be checking two sites now?

  • I want thank Todd for his comment above. He’s right, after doing some research and consulting some guru’s, there is no practical way to move the directory and retain it’s currently great Google ranking so I’m going to leave it where it is and add a featured real estate photographer feature to it.

  • Are you going to use squarespace on the new .com site?
