Facebook Owns Photographs You Post There?

March 2nd, 2009

This weekend I noticed that Art Wolfe was pretty worked up about changes that Facebook made last week to their Terms of Service so I did a little research on the subject. Both the consumerist.com and photoattorney.com have some good analysis on the subject. When I look at the Facebook terms of service as I write this, late on 3/1, it looks to me like the TOS are dated Sept 2008 and doesn’t read like the quote that Art Wolfe has on his blog, so perhaps they’ve backed off of the changes they made last week.

This TOS controversy is still evolving and the bottom line is that photographers should be very wary of posting any photos they care about on Facebook. I know some prominent photographers that have deleted their Facebook accounts because of the TOS changes.
