Why Your Lens Is Your Most Important Gear

February 26th, 2009

There’s a post on gizmodo.com today that is a pretty good argument on why you want to pay the most attention to your lens than any other part of your equipment. In the article they link to a youtube video that is a great description on how lenses are manufactured.

This is why I think real estate photographers just starting out should start out by studying the list of possible lenses for shooting interiors before you decide anything else. Better to purchase a quality lens and skimp on a DSLR body than the other way around.

  • Good article — thanks for pointing it out. It’s also worth noting (I don’t think I saw it in the article) how much lenses hold their value relative to bodies. I’ve known this, but still found myself surprised when I recently sold a lens for the same price I paid for it two years ago, but sold a body for less than 1/3 of what I paid!
